Tic tac toe, minus the draws

Two players, one phone, three marks each. Place a fourth and your first one disappears. Nobody ever runs out of moves, so nobody ever ties.

Three marks each

Place a fourth and your oldest mark disappears from the board.

No draws, ever

The board can never fill up, so every match ends in a win.

Play face to face

One phone flat on the table, no passing it back and forth.

Classic tic tac toe dies the moment the board fills up. Here it cannot. Each player is allowed three marks, and the fourth one pushes the oldest off the board. The mark that goes next is drawn faded, and both players can see it, so every turn is the same quiet question: do they see what I am about to lose, and do I see what they are about to gain?

The phone lies flat on the table. The bottom bar belongs to the player on your side, the top bar to the player across from you, and it is printed upside down so they read it the right way up. No passing the phone back and forth, no waiting for a connection. Three in a row takes the round, whoever lost the round starts the next one, and first to three rounds takes the match.

No ads. No permissions. No internet. No sign up. No analytics, no tracking, nothing collected. The whole game is under one megabyte and opens the instant you tap it, built to be the thing you reach for when there is a lull, at a coffee table, in a waiting room, on a first date when the conversation needs somewhere to go.
